I understand what you want to believe, but it has already been proven that this mythical "offer" can not happen today, as Kahn has threatened, or for that matter for a min of what, seven days?

    There is nothing to match.

I expect this kind of foolishness from Kahn

If they matched I would be pleased but if they let batum walk I would just be a little saddened

How bout you wolves fans, how would you feel if Khan sheds players to make batik the offer but Portland matches?

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

by Chris Haynes, Trail Blazers Insider (@ChrisBHaynes)

Update 11:55am: Report from Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune is that the Timberwolves are holding on to the offer sheet until the end of the day before submitting it to the NBA. Gives Portland a little more time for a sign and trade. Batum has signed it, it just hasn't been turned in yet.

A source close to the situation has indicated Nic Batum has just signed a Minnesota offer sheet. The contract is for 4 years, $46.5 million. The Blazers now have 72 hours to match the offer.

Neil Olshey has previously indicated that the Blazers intend to match any offers for Batum. Now with a signed offer sheet, it will be time to see if the Blazers stick to that plan.

you can only have 4.5% decreases each year, as well. So the difference between a "maximally front-loaded contract Year Two cap hit" and a "maximally back-loaded contract Year Two cap hit" is the diff b/w $10,445,054.95 and $9,628,440.37, or about 817k in cap space.

Olshey stated clearly yesterday that the Blazers wanted to negotiate with Nic's agent and Nic, but they were shut down

As I said above, I'd be bummed because I really like Batum and I think he'd flourish playing for Adelman and with Rubio.

But I know we have a plan B & C in case that happens, so I won't be completely crushed. We're definitely not done with our offseason yet.

It's a close call either way. I'd prefer we sign him, just because I'm eager to put as much talent around Aldridge as we can while he's in his prime. But if it doesn't work out, I can see us being active again next summer.

I'm kind of surprised a guy who was drafted #2 in last year's draft is being bandied around as a reasonable trade option for Batum. I mean, I know he hasn't produced a lot of stats yet, but geez. I'd be happy with a trade straight across for Batum, with maybe one of their many point guards thrown in (because hell, we need them and they don't).

Why was Nick Collison's contract different then? What separates the two?

    The Wolves can't offer a 5th year.

There should be a thread started on the CBA/RFA/UFA. These rules have to be explained in every other post on this thread.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

    A. I'll be happy if the Blazers match. It's more than I would have liked to spend on Nic, but unlike many here, I think Nic's best days as a player are ahead of him. I don't know if he'll be an All-Star because there are so many good players at his spot, but I think he's capable of being a legitimate second option on a contending team given the right offense and the right coach.

    B. I'll be ticked if the Blazers don't match. It would be a loss of talent with only the potential of a return in the future based upon additional cap space. Portland hasn't traditionally fared well in the FA market and I think it would be hard to get equivalent talent back.

    Now let's reverse it:

What would your take as a Minnesota Fan be if:

    A. The Blazers don't match and you get Nic at the reported price.

    or

    B. The Blazers do match and the T'Wolves have to move on to another option after having dumped some significant trading chips to clear space to make the offer.

MIN has done nothing (afaik, or has been reported) to make a valid offer sheet to Nic.

This is exactly what all of us think as well. If he stays great. If he goes it means the Blazers have a plan B

Just because the market is crazy doesn't mean you need to participate. Teams are flush with money right now. I say let him walk, put the money in your back pocket and save the cap space for a lopsided trade down the line.

Well he should have sat outside Nic's bedroom window tossing pebbles. Obviously he's not willing to go the extra mile.

No one has said they could offer a 5th year. There should be a thread with links for you to improve your reading comprehension.

It was set up under the old CBA where you could have up to 10.5% raises (or decreases). With the new CBA, you're limited to 4.5% (or 7.5% on 5yr maxes)

Cap space for who? How did that work out this year, and the year we signed Miller? Lopsided trade for who?

Nic wouldn't be embarrassingly over payed at 11.whatever. 23 year old SF that has been under the ball and chain of Nate and still has shown flashes

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

The story just peggs my bull shit meter. WE have 72 hours when the league recieves the offer sheet. The offer sheet has to fall under the rulls of the cba, or it shall be voided. If the offer is valid, PDX has 72 hours to match or not.

No one has seen this "offer", its just been "reported"
