They're not assets, but they're still tools. They may not be desirable since they're commoditized, but they still can serve a purpose. They're like anti-lock brakes; everyone has them, you probably won't need them, but if the situation arises where you do need them, you'll be glad they're there.
I've always kind of agreed with the guys who say it isn't worth giving a first round pick to get rid of a bad contract but now I see that it probably is.
I'm not thinking about how to keep Kanter right now. I'm anxious to see what the Blazers can do for the rest of the season. I think we have a very good team right now.
I'm an Olshey hater. Because he's a condescending dick and a liar. That being said, I'm super happy with his trade deadline work this season, and I fully acknowledge his ability to sift through the sands to pluck out gold. It's impressive. AND without that offer to Kanter way back when, I doubt he'd be on our roster right now. Hood was a good pick up too. He's still a dick, though.
Agreed. Besides, the more we win, the more likely the front office works to figure out a way to keep as many as the pieces together as they possibly can...
So would you rather keep the contracts just in case they are needed or if an opportunity to dump them to re-sign guys easier cam about would you prefer that route?
I don't think KP needed to be fired, and I don't think Petrie needed to be fired. And I'm not sure Olshey needs to be fired either.
I'm an ardent fence-sitter, so I will not select either of your binary options. If the chance arose, I would want to dump 1 contract (Turner)--IMO, no need to dump all three.
It would be extremely boring and I would not be able to laugh my ass off at some of the ridiculous comments.
Just stop. This ain't going anywhere. Olshey made a decision to go after a player and he got him to come here instead of somewhere else. He used every means he had to get that player including players on the team as i understand, campaigning to get that player. If you want to say he stumbled into it then fine. Hope you enjoy your day.
I know how we keep Canter. This is easy and flew over everyones head... If he doesn't sign for the min contract we can offer, we simply tell him we call Turkey Military over here and provide them a tour of the practice court while he is warming up. I should be a GM/Owner. Id make bank for the Vegas Raiders and could get Kanter to maybe pay US to keep him here!!!!
After years of not wanting to dump Turner if we have to attach a pick I would probably dump him in this situation but making the money work with a guy like Griffin is a lot tougher without him.
You're missing my point. If we kept Kanter and got hard capped it would be really hard to add other players to the roster and we have to have 14.
off season you have to trade expiring contracts ...what people probably seem concerned about is whether you pay some luxury tax and if we're successful post season I don't think that'll be such an issue...Jake, Chief and Enes are not going to get big contract offers but they'll get decent ones if they want to stick around. Meyers, Mo or ET would probably have to be gone ….Curry might as well. Trent can give you what Curry can on a rookie deal...you could also buy out ET to pay Enes..but I'm sure no expert in cap issues...I think if he turns out to be a needle mover they'll do whatever it takes to keep him around...Enes has made a max contract already...he's set
Maybe Kanter will take one for the team and re-sign for tax MLE for 1 year? Summer of 2020 is when most teams will have space and he is still young and could get that extra walking around $$$. But if that happened he would definitely be gone in 2020. So more likely he is just a short term rental. I’m still on the fence about keeping our expirings or hope to trade them for a disgruntled star next year. The way I look at it we have to do really well this year in the postseason to get on a star players radar. We do bad, dump the expirings and try to keep Kanter and be the next twin towers.
