Back in my days in Portland one of my last jobs before I worked full time on building a Transportation industry Freight and Equipment tacking system, was working with a company name EDP Central. They provide interactive online support for who might want such. Well it turns out, a some what, consortium of engineers did. So this EDP outfit hire me to build what this consortium needed. These guys were from Boeing, Skidmore Owings & Merril, and Gunderson Bro Engineering. With help and knowledge of these guys, seven or eight total, I put up a structural analysis program to test structures in various materials and then the ability to write code in PL1 inter actively to created stress testing software. Could not run it meaningfully online just test that it would work and give results. Not enough power to do the actually test, that took a dedicated mainframe, but that's how some of it got built. I only got a little feed back from time to time after that, but I do remember seeing a video, movie or something about how Boeing stress those planes. I took a warm feeling out of it for doing a little.
I flew around Vietnam in cargo planes outfitted with nylon mesh seats. During every trip we could hear enemy flak shooting at us. I thought it was the sound of the engine at the time. It was only later that I learned it was the sound lf flak from some guys trying to kill us. We flew into Vietnam on a Pan Am flight complete with stewardesses. Every seat was tourist and we were all in our fatigues. Opened the door and as we exited the plane it felt like opening an oven door to take a peek inside at whatever is baking. God it was hot. Most of those guys went into combat the next day. It was longer for me. First, they lost my records. Then, I had some additional electronics training. Sent me out to a machine gun with a can of ammo and that was the first time I ever saw an M60 machine gun. I was trained as an electronics technician, dammit. Everybody got to carry a rifle when I was there in '68. Well, that, fill sandbags and burn human shit. Life can be better state side, that's for sure. So, count your lucky stars you don't have to visit the VA hospital the majority of every week for the rest of my life. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
I was not trying to get a chuckle and the supporters I was referring to are not the ones in this forum. You're going to have to take my word on that one.
I have been work hard to learn to live with the inner workings of the VA. Have to do it now, that is all I have left.
Barfo is the coming trade war before or after the coming nuclear war and the sky falling? Or between the two? WW3 is on the Trump itinerary somewhere too. So much disaster, so little time. How's he gonna get it all done? Fuck, he has to raise the sea levels to the statue of liberty's tits as well. Im just not sure he can get it all done man.
Well, the trade war (easy to win!) was announced first, so I assumed that was priority one. But it sounds tonight like Trump is chickening out. barfo
I flew into Danang for my first tour in one of those pregnant belly cargo planes out of Subic Bay....with the nylon mesh seats....missles rolling back and forth on the ceiling the whole way there....arrived in Danang under mortar attack in my Navy whites scared shitless.....remember drinking a coca cola out of a rusty can luke warm while waiting for a Huey to take me out to the command ship.....
This will confuse barfo even further. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a...kely_allies_on_trade_--_democrats_136468.html Trump's Unlikely Allies on Trade -- Democrats
Koch brother alert. Hair on fire! Bogeyman! https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018...iffs-free-trade-essential-american-prosperity Charles Koch Slams Trump And Tariffs: "Free Trade Is Essential To American Prosperity"
Anything the Koch brothers are for I’m pretty much automatically against. It might be overreactionary but it’s worked so far.......
I just can't see these opinions on tariffs being good or bad as if you could create and axiom. Free trade helps keep prices down. This is true We do not have free trade now. Only in our take in. Out from the US is restricted all over the place. Free trade is not good for everyone in our population. Individuals and groups of people often pay a price. It also seems to me there are other priorities as a Nation more important than Free trade as a policy. Having resources to defend ourselves is on the top of this list, aluminum would be on top of that list. Steel also. Have a domestic food supply adequate to feed our population must always be maintained and protected. Medicine would be on the same list. ... I shall wait and see what the President negotiates. His predecessors did it very poorly.
I agree with you on most of this, but not quite all. It is not the case the US imposes no trade restrictions now - in fact there are lots. And I'm not sure that past administrations negotiated trade poorly - the relative wealth and robustness of our economy suggest that things weren't done too badly. Of course it's always possible to do better, but it's also possible to do worse, as we are likely about to observe. Finally, having enough steel and aluminum resources to fight a war would only be a problem if we went to war against Canada. barfo
IIRC, The DC3 was C-47 in military form. Took plenty of flights on these in the past. Was usually so tired that I only experienced the take-off and landing (or usually after the landing) - they are certainly not luxurious. Heck, they made a C-130 seem like a Cadillac (and I hated flying in those). Got to see an old C-47 flying recently in Palm Springs. Pretty happy did not have to be on-board. To be fair however, all the DC-3 / C-47 pilots I knew loved flying them.
I got to thinking about that C130 flight, it was the las little hop that started with a four place float plane off a little island in the Aleutians at a remote LORAN Station. Caught a Beaver out of Adak to Ketchikan. 707 to Ancorage. Caught a hop on a cargo plan, cant remember what it was..had four rotary engines..jeesh, slept on that leg to McCord. Military 727 to SF. Then a commercial non stop to DC that I snoozed all the way. The C130 was supposed to be the easy part...hahaha. All this because one of the brass said "Get him here" . Crazy stuff.
I spent most of my time in Danang and some of that was near the top of Monkey Mountain. I was there in '68 when the enemy was trying to take Danang. Dive bombers were flying low over our heads. 50 cals were firing tracers nearby. I was too young and too stupid to be sufficiently afraid. What an idiot.
