When should the Blazers trade Dame?

At this point after bringing in Grant and Payton, I think we only trade him if he demands it and otherwise we just ride with him until he retires and do what we can to try and win one title or more during that time.

ASAP. We've added a couple of veterans, but that's a sunk cost. We'd be better to admit that we're not good enough now than to keep throwing picks to other teams in an effort to get veterans around him.

Never ever even considering it unless he asks out.

In my opinion, he's more than earned that right. You don't beg a player to stay and be loyal for years just to then not return that favor. Dame gets to stay as long as he wants.

trading dame and making nurk new franchise player makes too much sense

just do it, its for the best

Dame is in a tough spot.

On one hand, he probably wanted to trade 7 for a proven star but he's gotta support the future as well. I am hopeful we land one more piece for him to make a run these next two years.

But i'm sick of hearing that he deserves to be traded if that is what he wants. That's some bullshit right there.

If PA hadn't passed away, we probably would have seen an all-star by Dame' side by now. That's life. We have been committed to him. He makes a shit ton of money. Not everyone can win an NBA Championship and so far Dame hasn't wanted to win won the way others have. If he changes course now and decides to go that route, it's gonna tarnish his legacy and there are no guarantees that he wins one anywhere else.

As far as deserving to be traded? Fuck that shit. Why???? Why does he deserve to be traded? Has he offered to take a reduction in salaray to get someone here? What am a missing? He signed an extension didn't he?

WTF is this this fickle fan shit..?..dumbest thing Portland could ever do is to feed this bullshit. Portland finally gets a franchise player and this is the reward? Fuck that. Lillard is right...loyalty has a shelf life and this thread is proof. I guess some folks didn't learn from last summer. Dame isn't going anywhere...all this noise is what media hacks fill pages with...fans don't need to follow that trend....Dame has not demanded a trade and the team would have traded him last year if they were going to . This isn't a story...it's gossip

So keep failing?
Going to be fun watching Joe, Chauncey and Dame try and build a winner. We are just a player or so away from being very solid. Last year at this time everyone was concerned Dame would demand a trade, been some good changes this then so I anticipate more to come. Just my opinion.

So we can trade Dame because they aren't winning a title, because trading him will....still not make them win a title.

Seems to make sense.

We probably need one more thread to discuss it, because 3 of the top 4 threads right now are clearly not enough.

Let’s envision this the other way. What if Dame had been the one pushing that he wants traded. How many in here would be saying F dame? You have to give loyalty to get loyalty. As much as I know we aren’t a contender I want it to be his decision or at least a mutual decision when and if he gets traded. I suspect that that day will come around the trade deadline this year when we are fighting for 7-8th spot in playoffs. Nice having a true superstar saying he wants to be in Portland it’s rare to find hell we can’t even get free agents to come to this amazing state.

if he wants out at the deadline, then do it. you have to see what this squad will do.

The problem is getting that, or really, those players. How? With what assets or money?

There can be trades up to the deadline and how do you know maybe Ant, Naz, Sharpe or Johnson may pop and/or become stars?
As i have mentioned 10 of 30 teams have won the championship in the last 30 years and there is a good chance, a combination of those same ten will win the next 5?

7 of 15 teams in the WC finished at 500 or better.
Every year 80% of the league are mediocre at best.
This is a league built around tv contracts, playoff basketball, and filling seats.
Only 10-15% each year will be contenders.

It's way too early to speak of that, we have yet to see a healthy dame under Chauncey - so, unless he ask for a trade, you keep him and evaluate

you take the guys you have and make a rock solid string defensive minded team...we have those guys...now it's up to coaching and buying in. you see what gels and come trade deadline mid season you try and find that one other guy on the market or maybe..Joe will find him in the next few weeks.....nobody thought undrafted G leaguer Trendon Watford on a two way contact could play but he proved them wrong...with Schmitz and our coaching staff I think player evaluation is something that we've improved .. It's leadership and coaching. Lot of teams that think they have "that guy with that money" find out that guy is lazy and fickle about buying in....AD comes to mind. People need to look past the autographs and find the hidden gems ...that's how you get those guys..Coaches Rogers and Curry are said to be amazing development coaches. Grant, Ant, Dame and Hart and even Nurk can score in bunches....maybe Sharpe as well down the road...it's defense that will make us a scary team to face.

What about all the flexibility we got from the Clippers trade? We sent out two starters but now have massive flexibility, so we just need to give Cronin a chance to show us what he'll do with it.

uh....last February is not the measuring stick for what he's done with the flexibility...Roco wasn't a starter...he got benched and only started again when Nance got hurt again...and Norm was mailing it in ...both got their asses handed to them by CJ in the playin.....you overvalue those guys....Winslow can out guard both of them combined as it is. Keon was a first round draft pick the year before...both Norm and Roco got bounced the last two year in the playoffs without impressing anyone. Move on. Josh Hart is so much better than Norm and Winslow is so much better than Roco that it's easy to see why the last batch of guys Olshey brought in were sent out.
Norm and Roco left Nurk on an island on defense all the time which made Nurk pick up fouls....Hart and Winslow with Nurk shut teams down....big upgrade

Is this a joke or do you not know?
