I don't know enough about the intricacies of cap management and players contracts and the rest to know how to keep Kanter.

But I'd start with not keeping Aminu. I know it's Ramadan and everything, but I saw the guy make 4 errors in the first 5 minutes of the game. He got the hook early and never returned.

I bet most people didn't even notice. And they won't notice next season when he's not on the Blazers.

Then there is Turner's salary. He was integral to pulling out the game 7 win, but that salary.....

    There's gotta be a way.

    I want to believe.

Oh, yeah. Unless they want to keep Meyers, Blazers would have no trouble trading his salary, maybe for a future pick or two so we take nothing back. I'd only do that though if it helps us keep Kanter.

I mentioned this before....the path to playoffs and all star nods for a guy like him is Charlotte...I'm sure he wants what Dame and CJ have here....Simons will fill that role going forward.....the only way to keep Enes is to talk him into a short term deal with a promise after a year of a hefty raise. It doesn't hurt that Ron Wyden has been working with him and attending the games...Enes can find a way to make it work.

If I read this right, there are 4 teams with cap space:
    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/2019/

1 one those is NYK, who won't be making an offer to Kanter.
Do people think the Suns, Mavs, or Hawks want Kanter? I don't think so.
    Do they want Hood????
    They certainly don't want Curry.

If (non-top tier) FAs are willing to take midlevel, there will be competition for their services, otherwise there won't be.

I'd like to keep Kanter, but with Nurkic coming back eventually, I'd rather they use any cap tricks they can to keep Seth Curry and/or Rodney Hood. Guards/wings who can shoot and hang in defensively are more important than post-up centers--especially when the Blazers already have one who will be back.

I don’t think we will extend Aminu. We did not extend Davis and it’s the same situation. He will probably get $8million or so from someone else and go.

Kanter could probably be signed at $6million for 1 year. Hood would likely command a similar contract. The issue is more teams have cap space this year than last year so contracts will get more expensive but at the same time there are so many mid-tier players expiring this year - like Mirotic, Beverley, Lopez, Bogdanovic, KCP, Rubio etc. - that not all of them will get good contracts anyway. Plus there are like 10-15 borderline All-Star or proper good young talent expiring - like Middleton, Harris, Vucevic, Randle, and Brogdon - and all of them could get paid too.

I think the max we can offer to Hood without using MLE will be like $4.5million? And then we can use MLE for Kanter. I’d let Curry go and start integrating Simons, and I would love to find a buyer who can take Harkless while sending back someone less expensive on an equally short deal.

We will be able to do some good stuff in FA in 2021 I think. Not necessarily going after max players but filling out the roster with 2-3 good rotation players on a better level than Moe or Meyers.

I feel like the draft will be super important. There is much less star potential beyond top 3 but I feel this is the draft where you can get an adequate role player who will contribute straightaway in late first. I have seen PJ Washington, Rui Hachimura and Keldon Johnson all projected around where we would pick. Those would be good catches.

If you look at all top teams across the league they have contributors who they picked late in the draft. We need a Siakam or a Brogdon to elevate our rotation to a new level.

We will need Kanter for the first few months while Nurk is rehabbing.

I do think trying to do a lot of maneuvering to try to sign an 18MPG backup is somewhat the wrong direction to take. However, Kanter has embraced the team, and having him back for one year is definitely something I think both parties would be interested in. There's no long term commitment in case Kanter wants to be starter somewhere else, and we can try to run it back with a fully healthy squad.

Also, I wonder if there may be the ability to play both on the floor at the same time. We would dominate the offensive glass and absolutely abuse smaller teams in the paint. It won't work for every matchup, but I can definitely see it working in others and will give Kanter a bigger role than that 18 minute backup.

Yeah I don’t see anyway Zach doesn’t start next year and no way Chief comes back to come off the bench imo.

    Playing Nurk and Enes together?
Oh my....that would be some paint owning.
Throw Zach in at the 3?

Not trying to hijack this thread, but aren't we going to pay Dame the supermax? Will that count for the upcoming season or the season after?
How will that impact the other contracts? I believe we have 1 more year of Moe, E.T. and M.L.

Yeah but aren't there like 20 teams who are close to offering the Mid-Level Exception (Non-Taxpayer) That is 3.5 million per year more than we can. Hood needs a pay day. He has yet to get one. I worry about keeping him

Indiana, Utah, Brooklyn, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, Denver, and Sacremento will/could have serious cap space this summer.
