Now that they have traded their 1st round pick (and a future pick) for Covington, the 2nd round will consist of the Blazers Draft night unless they make some other move to acquire a pick. (one of Boston's 3 picks?)

There seems to always be a 2nd rounder or two that makes an impact. Can the Blazers get that guy this year?

Trading up with Boston and maybe taking on Kanter or Poirier in the process (we have TPE to absorb them)

Then take Scrubb.

I do wonder if maybe we just skip the draft all together and go all in and fill out the roster with vets and make a run at the damn thing.

Whoever is the biggest long shot to have the most upside....or Pritchard. Jones can really shoot it...but a bit of duplication with Trent.

We know when Olshey falls for someone he gets them. He got Layman, Trent, and Crabbe without even having a second rounder. It seems like he’s fallen for Scrubb, so my guess is he’ll find a way to get him. Or maybe not. We’ll see.

Neil will trade the 46th and a future 2nd or cash consids to move up and get scrubb

I think Scrubb would be worth trading up for in the second round. If we stick around at 46 my pick is Abdoulaye N'Doye. I like the fact that he can defend one through four and run the point. He's a bit of an unknown but who isn't at 46. He's got a great handle, he passes well, he can hit spot up threes, he is a fantastic defender with a great motor, he is not an explosive athlete, his first step is nonexistent and he doesn't have a pull up jumper but he does finish well inside if he gets free off a pick or is cutting when he's off the ball. So on offense he is good at initiating offense, distributing the ball and playing off of the ball and on defense he is a monster.

There is absolutely no way to predict who'll be available by then. But it's safe to predict that he has about a 1% chance of being a useful player, given past drafts.

Having said that: Cassius Winston!

Or possibly Tre Jones.

what do you consider useful? I would say that Crabbe, Layman and Trent have all been useful at one point.

Olsheys track record with second rounders is ELITE. All are/were rotation players at minimum.

Barton
Crabbe
Connaughton
Layman
Trent

Could even include DeAndre Jordan from his clipper days if you wanted to.

Weren't they all picked at the top of the second round? Usefulness of picks PLUMMETS after about the first ten second round picks. Check it out!

[Edit: Layman was picked with #47 (we have #46 tomorrow). So I guess there's hope. Also you've got to include the useful undrafted players. But the odds are stacked against us.]

perhaps you were being hyperbolic in saying 1% since you’d have to go off of Neil’s track record.

I agree that it looks unlikely he'll fall to 46. If he does, it's because he failed a ton of physicals.
I'm sure teams are pretty worried...

Not in ESPN's latest mock, measure pretty small at the combine (6'8" wingspan, although decent reach) and one of the highest body fat %'s at just over 220lbs.

I want the highest ceiling/best athlete available at whatever pick is high enough up that's reasonably and affordably attainable -- if that's Scrubb, fine, if not, fine.

I DON'T want undersized bigs, combo guards who lack PG chops or Payton Pritchard (and that's coming from a Duck.)

My vote is Isaiah Joe. He's a better player than Mason Jones, although Mason has really transformed himself from HS to now. He was very overweight and that has caused him to play below the rim. I see he has even worked more on his body since the end of season. His handles are not good and can't guard anyone at his position. Joe may have been the best defender on the team last year and his all around game will shine in the NBA. He's an assassin from deep

His stock is rising — I think he goes late first
