Notice Oregon bill cracks down on racially motivated 911 calls

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Dominique Moran was fired over asking a group of black men to pay for their meal.
The Black men made a video and posted it to social media saying. 'Can't a black man grab a bite after a workout?'
Internet mob ensued.
Harassment ensued.
She was fired from her job as the manager.
Went viral. MSM picked it up.

More came out.
A black man did some digging and found out this group of black men have bragged on their own social media accounts about dining at dashing at this specific chipotle.
More came out.
It was found that she was telling them. 'You have to pay'.
More came out, shes not white. But mexican-american.
But because she looks white, shes deemed the white devil by internet mob and MSM.

We as a society have a long way to go before we see anything other than skin color.
People of all pigmentation need to check themselves.

Suing for money isn't going to do anything.
Best thing imo is for the police to show up and then join the bbq.
Or like they have done. Police get called on kids playing basketball in the street. They show up and play with them.
Suing isn't going to solve anything. Only create more resentment and hate both ways.

ps. I want to call these black men, children. But it was pre-defined for me by them.
Frankly IMO only a child, no matter the pigmentation would dine and dash.

You're being SO disinginuous about this story. You didn't tell it ALL and I'm wondering why....

"Someone started an online petition to help Moran get her job back. Another started a GoFundMe page for her. The anger started shifting to the men who called Moran a racist.
At least one person even sent a tweet to the man who posted the original video:
"Yeah thanks for f---ing over the future black people that ACTUALLY will deal with racism. For you to turn this into some sorta joke to ruin this lady's life is disgusting."
The media picked up the new narrative. It reprinted the tweets boasting of dining and dashing. It quickly ran a series of stories that seemed to vindicate Moran."

MUSLIMS helped her:

"Moran, however, didn't accept Chipotle's offer. She said strangers believed in her more than her former employer.
"They discovered the truth before my own company did," she says.
When contacted about the incident, Chipotle spokeswoman Laurie Schalow emailed CNN: "Our former manager did not accept an offer for reinstatement. We won't be commenting further on this matter."

Now @H.C. While you're over here trippin about this story, it sounds like WE ALL learned a lesson from it, BLACK people helped her out the suspects, Chipotle offered her her job back and she said NO.
Now she's living in LA studying to sell insurance.

Tell the whole story.

Yeah, I don't think the new law will actually get very many people convicted. I'm hoping it dissuades people from being assholes in the first place.
NO ONE should have to live in fear of some asshole getting the authorities checking them out just because they are different.

It's not that kind of law. There won't be convictions. It's a civil law.

It's much easier to win in civil court.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this part of the bill. Determining intent is so hard to do. I hope ultimately it just makes people THINK before they call the cops on someone. Also, I hope people who call the cops just because they're out to get a person of color get more than 250 taken out of their pockets, but ya know, baby steps I guess.

I mean...... this is still an example of the internet mob overreacting before all the details come to light. We see it all the time. Whether they offered her job back after the fact doesn't change the original story.

Yes it does. The context he set was that she was just fired. End of story.

Well that wasn't the end of the story. It had a HAPPY ending. As I would expect most would have because TRUTH always comes to light.

I think it's a good first step but this country always wants to implement shit incrementally...

I think it should be like a traffic ticket instead of having to sue.

Im not sure how to implement this, but would you really want it to be left up to the cop to determine if it was worth the ticket or just a warning? Im not sure I even want just one judge to determine it. A group of people of different colors, backgrounds, etc seems more likely to make the right call.

There doesn't need to be more government to adjudicate this.

I'd be fine with hiring more police supervisors and making it so a supervisor can be dispatched to the scene.

There isn't ANYTHING now. Like I said, it's a good first step.

After thinking about this for some time. This is a terrible idea.

I could get behind a bill that would allow for criminal charges for people who make these types of calls, but this feels more like a revenge bill. Making the bill allow for criminal charges, if it is determined through an investigation that it was racially motivated, charges could then include the ability to sue for damages and/or jail time. Seems more reasonable to me.

I believe making false 911 calls is already a crime. The problem is getting a conviction. You have to convince the cops and DA to take it seriously. This way, the victim has some control.

Of course, you still have a problem. Imagine some of the posters in this thread sitting on the jury. The defendant could confess on the witness stand and they would still vote "not guilty."

That has nothing to do with proving to authorities that she was being racist. You actually have to prove it. Something that is hard to do.

Chipotle fucked up here plain and simple. They could've waited til more evidence surfaced and they didn't.

Also, I don't want the fucking police at my BBQ.

And when you say:

"We as a society have a long way to go before we see anything other than skin color."

It WREAKS of not understanding what it's like to be me.

Frankly, you can't CHOOSE how you see me. I CHOOSE how I want to be seen. And I want to be seen as a black man.

You get what you give remember that.

Wow, just wow.
Dude you're talking to someone who works with the community and knows that people want to be identified as they are.
Doesn't matter if it's White, Black, Green or People who have been diagnosed by a medical professional with a mental health condition.

I understand fully that Black people are proud to be black, and want to be identified as such.
That doesn't mean I should tell you to go build a fence............................................................................
It means you're a black man and you want to be seen as such. Therefore you're seen as a black man who has just as much(If not more as that's based on the individual) to offer as a white/yellow/green/purple man.
Just like I understand fully that people who have been diagnosed by a medical professional with a mental health condition want to be identified by that. Hell I had someone introduce them self to me today as -- 'Hi my names _____ and I'm Autistic.' She was proud to be Autistic. She didn't want special treatment.
She wanted to be identified as an Autistic and a seat at the table just like me.
Frankly she deserved it and got it. Because that's how I roll.
All people have something to offer, everyone has a different view. All views are VALID.

Because I work in the community, while you've been coaching basketball.
I've been attending my yearly classes which reaffirm the standard I've set in the programs I run/participate in.
FWIW for college I took classes which were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more indepth than the two week classes I've got to attend for work.

I'll say it differently.
You as a black man have a lot to learn about what is wrong with the things you as a black man do.
Just like.
I as a white man have a lot to learn about what is wrong with the things as a white man I do.
I apologize for not using the proper pronoun.
However I wanted to be quick and not type out every fucking color on the planet.
Apparently I should've................................

This is something you have to know though.
I will not apologize for seeing an individual as an individual.
You might be black, but you're the individual known as Damani(sorry if I spelt it wrong).
If I got a group of black people together each and every one of them would be different and not exactly alike. Someone would have a different thought on a the same thing. Not everyone is the same. That's why it's better to identify an individual as such.
Just like if I was put in a group of white people. I would still be the individual known as Brandon. Not all white people would see it the same.

Nobody is perfect everyone makes mistakes.
To act perfect is a perfect example of not being aware enough about yourself.

You may or may not understand the point I'm making and that's okay.
I encourage you to at the very minimum do research on the matter because I've done mine. However I encourage you to attend classes if you don't understand. As it's a very complicated thing.
No that doesn't mean attend a 3 hour workshop and think you know it all. No one does.
But it will help you.

For example. Those diagnosed by a medical professional with a mental health issue used to not want it brought up.
Now you'll see most of the time they want you to know and their identity is built on it. They're proud of it.

You're being SO disinginuous about this story. You didn't tell it ALL and I'm wondering why....

You get what you give.
Remember that.

My point had nothing to do with her employer offering her job back after proof came out that the black men were being dubious.
Literally that has nothing to do with being proven guilty like she was before facts came out.
I won't let you gloss over that.
She looked white, she was called a racist by black men because she as the manager was attempting to make known dine and dashers pay for their food.
She was convicted in the court of opinion, she was fired, she was harassed, she didn't want to go outside for fear of it.(even after she was proven not racist.)

Hm, having power over someone that looks white. Now that's something that we all should add into what we look at.(Shit I did it again. Insert color of specific race for the word 'we')

There is no difference between this and having the police called on you because you're bbqing/playing ball in the street.
'White-looking person is being racist! Even though we've stolen food before why can't we get a bite!?'
'Black person is bbqing in the park, do they even know how to use a bbq?'
Both are equally fucked up and will effect either person going forward.

Insert false equivalency here. Insert one in a million there.

At the end of the day a black man checked his own race.

Now I will say what my response should've been to your responses.
Go fuck yourself.

You're one of the few people on this forum who've met me.
You're one of the few people on this forum who I've shared certain racist things about immediate members of my family.
You're one of the even few-er who.. Know. What. I. Do. For. A. Living.
Never should you talk to me like you do certain posters on this forum who attack you for being black.
And being that you did.
I'll say it again.
Go. Fuck. Yourself.

With all this said.
You need to learn how to separate the racists on this forum who attack you daily for being black.
And those whom you know are your allies.

If you expect me to read all this at work....

You sound very privileged to NOT know.

Police were called on me as a 15 year old UNARMED teenager for NO reason at all, just playing in Creston Park.

They pulled their guns out and made us lay down on the ground.

I could've been killed for no reason at all.

Now, there's an Oregon story for you....

With your privileged ass....

I see you use the term Police where I use Sheriff. Sounds like you have a Police problem or a City management problem that permits the abuse you claim.
How does another Oregon Statutes law correct your polices abuse problem that occurred when you were 15? Is that about 30 years ago and it is still a problem?
Are you sure the legislature really fixed the problem.

Oh, maybe it was in Israel?

You get what you give remember that.

You know bro.. I just took 7 minutes of my time to read this DRIVEL and CAN'T HELP but feel that you're really whitesplaining a bunch of basic shit to me...

It's really off putting and insults my intelligence...

IDGAF if she lost her job. Stop acting like there's an equivalence because you find ONE well publicized case of mistaken racism.

ESPECIALLY one that had a good outcome that we CAN ALL (doesn't seem like you have) learn from.

It SMACKS of not giving a SHIT about when the police were called on me and guns were drawn. Because you don't seem to.

Go fuck myself???

Good day to you sir...

No. No they're not.

Racist, bigoted, hateful views are not valid and I won't entertain any notion of them being valid.
It's as if I said it myself.

How do you know she did not look suspicious to the caller?

Open your mind... Stop and frisk numbers are below and they tell the complete story.

People were stopped for "looking suspicious".

In 2012, 532,911 NYPD stops were recorded.
473,644 were innocent (89 percent). 421,544 INNOCENT
284,229 were black (55 percent). 253,026 INNOCENT
165,140 were Latino (32 percent). 147,214 INNOCENT
50,366 were white (10 percent). 44,826 INNOCENT

Looks like a big waste of money and police time to have such a racist policy.

With all this said.
You need to learn how to separate the racists on this forum who attack you daily for being black.
And those whom you know are your allies.
Until you can do that. There is nothing else to be said between us.
Have a nice life dude. Wish you, and your son the best.

Fine by me... Save me from having WEIRD ASS interactions in the future... Feel free to put me on IGNORE....

So the new law corrects this by making it illegal to use 911 tow call when someone looks suspicious?

This new law prevents your incident how?

It does that as well as gives me recourse if it does happen.

There are currently no preventative measures nor any recourse for this.

But they're on their way.

You need to read and stop asking me silly questions:

There doesn't need to be more government to adjudicate this.

I'd be fine with hiring more police supervisors and making it so a supervisor can be dispatched to the scene.

There isn't ANYTHING now. Like I said, it's a good first step.

You forgot the most important part........Unconstitutional

You need to read and stop asking me silly questions:

Well from what you posted, I don't see how it will have any affect had it been in place when you were 15 and the cops came, guns drawn.
How it has any affect on the lady with the suspicious view of the lady out canvasing.

Even less affect for the dude in Starbucks in Philly. And no way will it reach to Yale.

I don't think the new law prevents making a 911 call because someone looks suspicious.
I was talking about stop and frisk.

I tried to find an answer for one simple question. Who is the judge when this goes to court.

Judges are supposed to recuse themselves if they have any conflicts of interest. Well as much as I hate to say it a white person could claim bias if they got a black judge.

This law seems like a bad reaction to a real problem. Especially after all these years of "see something say something"

Middle aged white women are going to go broke because of this.

I've called the cops 3 or 4 times in my life and that was to keep me from taking the law into my own hands.

I just explained it. If you don't get it....

It does that as well as gives me recourse if it does happen.

Had whoever called the police (AGAIN for no reason) would've known I have recourse then that could've prevented the call.

And you're still not listening, reading, or comprehending, one of the three:

It's NOT a silver bullet. It's a good FIRST STEP.
