I look forward to bumping this thread once Hartenstein is in the league.

I didn't say he was a leader because he's cocky, I said that it won't stop him from being one. He was constantly communicating in the game and encouraging his teammates. It doesn't take a professional to see it.

And you know nothing about his personality beyond some thing you read on nbadraft.net or whatever, so be real. That applies to me too. I'm not saying he won't cause problems, but I'm not saying he will either. We don't have to pretend to know more than we actually do.

You said he has leadership potential and you have no basis for saying so. That's what I'm saying.

You can tell something like that by just watching a game. So yes I do.

And for the record, the hoop summit wasn't the first game I've seen him play.

You can't tell something like that just from watching a game. How do you think you can determine someone has leadership potential just by watching a game on TV?

How can you not? Seeing him put guys in position. Huddling guys up after a whistle. Encouraging his teammates. He was literally the only guy on the world team doing any of that. Are you saying those aren't leadership qualities? It's not that hard to tell. He's also the son of a coach, so would it really be a shock if it rubbed off on him?

    He's also a year older.

That doesn't compare to a foreign league with a bunch of older, better players.

Connaughton was a leader in college. How bout now? Gotta get good before anyone even worries about that stuff.

Probably the only thing keeping him in the league?

Is his non-existant leadership from the bench?

Don't think Connaughton has no locker room presence. You can stick in the league just by being a great teammate. I.e. Mark Madsen

There's a difference between a great teammate and a leader.

Call it whatever you want, I don't even know what your argument is anymore. Connaughtons personality hasn't transfered to the NBA? Because it has, and it'll probably be the thing that keeps him in the league.

You really think someone is gonna give Connaughton a contract based off his personality???

Probably. In a league full of egos, teams love having a team oriented hype man, for whatever reason. And now with rosters getting even bigger, teams have another excuse to carry them.

Expect Connaughton to be here next year as well.

carrying "hype men" is also cheap way to fill out a roster, which is increasingly valuable these days with contracts looking the way they do.

Giles is a prospect I try to force myself to like with our pick - even trading up if need be - if it weren't for his three knee surgeries he'd easily be the consensus #1 pick in this draft. He's that type of talent.

Since we have three picks, might as well be the team to roll the dice on him. And he won't have to play immediately either.

If we keep all 3 picks where they land then I'd be for taking a gamble on Giles' health. But if package picks to move up and only end up with 2 players from the draft I'd rather take someone who would be less of a risk. I definitely would not want to trade two of our picks to gamble on Giles.

Giles is definitely talented. However health is a big deal, and you see players slip down the boards all the time because of their health concerns. I think about Joel Embiid and how many teams were willing to risk their pick for his talent, if everyone is passing on Giles I'd take it as a sign that teams don't trust his long term health.
